Lower Dolpa trekking

Lower Dolpa is located inside the shey-Phoksundo National park of Midwestern Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards the Tibetan Plateau. Cut off by a series of very high passes, closed by snow most of the year Dolpo remains a truly isolated corner of Nepal. Time has stood still here for countries as the inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue to live, cultivate and trade the way they have done since time immemorial. The finally preserved Echo-system encompasses wildlife, including the blue sheep and Leopard. A trk through Dolpo is an experience not easily forgotten.

Dolpa offers a wonderful chance to experience a Landscape and culture for different from seen in other parts of country. It is located in the central west of the country. The focal point of the area is Shey phoksundo National ark. This remote and rugged protected area is both scenically and culturally attractive. It is the hobbit of various rare endangered plant and wildlife species many of which can be seen now here else in the country, animal species of particular interest in the national park are populations of snow Leopard, gray wolf and blue sheep.

The most obvious group of people seen in the northern parts of the area. Particularly in Dolpa area of Tibetan origin similar to Tibetan and Sherpa they really on taking out a living on the high pastures and supplementing this with trade both to the north and south. For years their salt caravans have been a common site along the mountain passes. Their religion is a mixture of Tibetan Buddhism and the ancient, Pree- Buddhist, bon religion, a largely animistic faith. Strongly their language is based on the Tibetan dialect spoken in Kham, a province of old Tibet located many hundreds of kilometers to the east.

Lower down the people are a mixture of ethnic groups, such as the Magar, Gurung and hill people. They are quite different in culture and language to their cousins further east.
